10 Things You May Not Know About Me

by Samantha on March 17, 2010

1. I like to cook (and bake-see above cookies), and I make it a point to make a healthy, home-cooked meal for me and my boyfriend at least a few nights a week. Cooking Light is my favorite recipe resource. If you come visit me in NYC, chances are I’ll cook for you. Right, Ben? :)

2. I used to play basketball. When I was in middle school, I played in town league. This was during my “tall phase,” before everyone caught up to me. I’m still a pretty good shooter, and I definitely enjoy a good game of horse.

3. I like arts and crafts. In my free time, I have been known to color, scrapbook, and bead. My mom just taught me to knit, so I’ve been working on that too.

4. When I was in middle school and high school, I tutored Hebrew at my temple. In Massachusetts, I worked with kids preparing for their Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, and on Long Island, I worked with the slower learners who needed more individual attention to learn letters and sounds.

5. I can’t wear black and brown together. I know that supposedly it’s an acceptable thing now in the world of fashion, but it still makes me twitch. (P.S. Shameless plug for my fashion photo blog)

6. I have never been in the hospital except when I was born. Knock on wood, I haven’t even sprained anything.

7. Hippos are my favorite animal. I know it’s weird, but they are.  You would love them too if you saw the stuffed hippo my boyfriend got me for my birthday four years ago. He’s the cutest thing ever!  (My IRL friends Andrea and Dan will confirm this fact!)

8. I have five first cousins and they are all boys. I guess it makes up for the lack of brothers?

9. I really love ice cream… a lot. Low fat only, and my favorite flavors are: Cookie dough, cookies and cream, and cake batter.

10. I have five piercings, all in my ears (doubles in each ear, and cartilage in my right). For a while, I wanted to get my belly button pierced, but after I saw the hell my best friend went through, I wimped out.

I hope you learned something new and interesting about me!  Now, it’s your turn. What’s something (or some things) I/we don’t know about you? Leave your answer(s) in the comments and/or write a post of your own and share the link below. Looking forward to learning more about you :)

    Cool list. Like 7 & 10 most.

I already have a about me page so I'm not going to be redundant.

Let's see what can I share….I'm a closet tech geek who would love to learn code and create websites, but just doesn't have any more time to spare to learn something new. I refuse to give up anymore sleep…I only get 6 hours as it is. I have a tattoo on my lower back but usually keep it covered up (especially at the office). My belly button is pierced, but I took it out when I was doing Trampoline & Tumbling after it caught once on the trampoline. Ummm…I love to scrapbook and need to make more time for it. And my favorite show to watch while I am packing up my stuff for the next day is Babar (yes, the kid show about an elephant).

    God…where to begin? I'm on a deadline, so here's a quick list:

    1. I was a competitive swimmer for 15 years. I swam butterfly and the individual medley
    2. I played football for 6 years at an 'all star' level. It was great until everyone gained weight and I didn't.
    3. I've worked as a chef in numerous restaurants
    4. I've broken 4 bones, not including 8 of 10 knuckles.

Thanks Arsene! Hippos and piercings are your favorites of mine…an interesting combo! What's something about you that you don't say in your about page? There has to be something!

I love this! Here are a few things about me that some people don't know:
    1. I have a tattoo…It's on my hip in the front and it's even covered in a bikini so most people don't know it's there. Also, it's a Hebrew word, and yes, I realize the irony in that.
    2. My nose was pierced in college and I took it out the day I interviewed for my job, and haven't put it back in since!
    3. I'm a scuba diver. I haven't been in several years, but my favorite place to be in the whole entire world is under water because its so beautiful and quiet!
    4. I partially tore my ACL playing soccer in high school but never got it repaired because it wasn't a complete tear…

Sam, I love this! It's a good idea. Maybe I will write a 10 things you don't know about me post too. It's a great way to know people :) I love that you love cooking/baking. Me too!

I love lists! But I think everyone already knows that about me. But here's my list:
    1. I LOVE to yell during sports. My parents say they won't even take me to games anymore because I'm so loud. And I'm not just one of those “yelling for the team with the pretty colors” girls, I actually know what's going on.
    2. If you ever end up on a long car trip with me, you know I'll sing to pretty much anything at the top of my lungs, whether I know the words or not.
    3. I have two tattoos that are symbols from medallions I've lost, so I got the tattoos so I'd never lose them again.
    4. One of my favorite hobbies is to people-watch. I bring books with me when I go out, but they're more like props as a watch all the interesting people around me.

    Awesome Sam!

    A few about me!

    1) I'm blind in my right eye since birth.
    2) I'm actually a miracle baby (told my parents they would never have kids)
    3) I have 36 cousins
    4) I've never broken a bone, but have had two surgeries on my ankles for complete ligament tears, loads of staples, stitches for various injuries.

Thanks for sharing, Kris! That belly button ring/trampoline incident sounds painful! Definitely don't give up anymore sleep, your body will not be happy. And, I love that you watch Babar! I'm all for keeping our inner children alive :)

  • http://www.lifeschocolates.com sameve

Wow! Definitely had no idea you used to swim and play football, and the chef thing is awesome too! Ouch, that is a lot of broken bones. Thanks for sharing!

I love learning new things about people! Thanks for sharing :)

I made a similar list during blogathon. You can find it here: http://strawberryghetto.blogspot.com/2009/07/po

PS: I'm not sure you get these ads in the States (probably not), but they're my favourite b/c of the hippos! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KDj2Uo0IwU

I wanted this post to spark discussion, and it already has! As soon as I read that you have a tattoo in Hebrew, I asked you about it, and that set off a great chat about language and religion. Awesome! Totally cool that you're a scuba diver! I've been snorkeling, but never scuba. The underwater world certainly is amazing. Never knew about the ACL, you can probably relate to my knee pain. I hope it's doing better now. Thanks for sharing these things about you!

  • http://www.lifeschocolates.com sameve

Thanks Grace! Definitely write a post of your own, and if you do, please come back and post a link to it for all of those who do not have your blog in their Reader like I do :)

  • http://www.lifeschocolates.com sameve

Haha woo lists! I'm so glad you shared these things because I just found out more that we have in common! I am also a big sports fan, and a legit one too. I yell a lot, even at the TV. And people watching is one of my favorite activities too! I usually have an inner commentary going about what they're all wearing, ha!

  • http://www.lifeschocolates.com sameve

Okay, definitely didn't know any of these things! I bet being blind in your right eye makes you really grateful for your left one, and it's pretty amazing that you can still rock at soccer (and other sports) without peripheral vision. Also, thank goodness for miracles! And, 36 cousins? Holy moly that's a lot! Do you enjoy having such a big family? Thanks Ryan, happy to learn more about you!

Fun! Thanks for sharing the hippo commercial! And, I love that there's a tiny little hippo under your comment because of that link. I will definitely check out your list too.

Rather than listing 5 here, I posted and linked back to you as recommended. Enjoy! http://www.opheliaswebb.com/2010/03/5-things-yo

I also enjoy cookies and cakes. I haven't really tried baking cakes, but I'm pretty good at cookies. Thanks for commenting!
